Baccanal x Karakterre: A New Chapter in Natural Wine Festivals

On April 5, 2025, Villa Vendri in Verona will host an exciting collaboration between Baccanal and Karakterre, two festivals deeply rooted in the world of natural and artisanal winemaking. More than just a tasting event, this fair is a gathering of farmers, artisans, and enthusiasts who share a commitment to sustainable, low-intervention winemaking.

Baccanal, a festival that emerged from a series of intimate events in 2023, has steadily grown, culminating in a larger showcase at Vinitaly in 2024. This year, it takes a bold step forward by joining forces with Karakterre, one of Europe’s leading natural wine fairs, which has established itself in Austria and New York.

The arrival of Karakterre in Italy is like the closing of a circle for me,” says Marko Kovac, founder of Karakterre. “Italian winemakers were the ones who inspired me the most when I started. The Italian fairs have been formative for what Karakterre is today, and many of the winemakers who originally gave me advice are still part of this journey.”

What sets Baccanal x Karakterre apart is its international outlook. “We wanted a 50/50 balance between Italian and international producers. When we approached Marko for advice on making Baccanal more international, he saw an opportunity to bring the Karakterre concept to Italy.

The shared philosophy of both festivals goes beyond wine. The event aims to celebrate artisanal craftsmanship across various sectors, from food and agricultural beer to tailoring, shoemaking, creative recycling, and the arts. “The artisanal approach guarantees a cultural and thoughtful background to the things we consume in our daily life,” say the organizers.

With wines served in Zalto Denk’Art Balance glasses and a relaxed yet refined atmosphere in a historic villa, Baccanal x Karakterre promises an immersive experience that bridges tradition, innovation, and community.
