Nefos is a captivating rosé crafted from three native Greek grapes—Xinomavro, Stavroto, and Krasato—grown high in the slate soils of Mount Olympus’s foothills. The 2022 vintage faced five months without rain and scorching temperatures above 40°C for over forty days, creating a distinctive depth and vibrant character. Handpicked grapes were fermented with native yeasts in whole bunches, then rested for eight months in old barriques. Unfiltered and naturally produced, this wine reveals the purest expression of its terroir. Interestingly, the previous 2021 harvest was delayed by heavy rains, resulting in higher sugar levels and a sweeter style. By contrast, the 2022 edition offers an elegant dryness, balanced by fresh acidity and subtle hints of ripe red fruit. Mea by Matic Wines is a distinctive sparkling wine from Slovenia, crafted using the traditional Pétillant Naturel method, or Pet-Nat. The wine takes its name, "Mea," meaning "mine" in Latin, because it marked the winemaker's first commercially produced sparkling wine. Made from 100% Šipon grapes, locally known as Furmint, the wine is bottled during its primary fermentation, resulting in a natural and gentle fizz. Mea is known for its freshness, featuring vibrant notes of lime and green apple along with subtle hints of bread and yeast. It boasts lively acidity and a refreshing minerality derived from the vineyard's marly soils and cool climate, which enhance its aromatic intensity.
