Chute Libre from Terrain Vague is a red wine with an unusual story rooted in old Carignan vines from Fitou in the Languedoc region. Its journey began when the original 2022 vintage didn't finish fermenting, leaving a bit of residual sugar. To continue the process, the winemaker added freshly harvested Macabeo grapes from 2023, allowing them to soak for two months. This creative approach also included topping up with lees from another cuvée, giving Chute Libre extra character. The result is a light, lively red with a noticeably zesty acidity and a vibrant, fluid texture. It's a playful yet engaging wine that showcases the imaginative style of Terrain Vague, making it perfect for those who enjoy a bright twist on traditional reds.
Caviste
Mea by Matic Wines is a distinctive sparkling wine from Slovenia, crafted using the traditional Pétillant Naturel method, or Pet-Nat. The wine takes its name, "Mea," meaning "mine" in Latin, because it marked the winemaker's first commercially produced sparkling wine. Made from 100% Šipon grapes, locally known as Furmint, the wine is bottled during its primary fermentation, resulting in a natural and gentle fizz. Mea is known for its freshness, featuring vibrant notes of lime and green apple along with subtle hints of bread and yeast. It boasts lively acidity and a refreshing minerality derived from the vineyard's marly soils and cool climate, which enhance its aromatic intensity. Each bottle offers a unique experience due to its natural, unfiltered production method, giving it a charming cloudiness and authentic character. Ideal as an aperitif, Mea pairs excellently with sushi, seafood appetizers, and other fresh dishes. Crafted sustainably and organically, this wine represents an honest expression of its terroir, bringing a delightful combination of simplicity, authenticity, and personality to every glass.
