Alicia Dorey's memoir, 'À nos ivresses' (translated to English as 'To Our Intoxication', the word ivresses in French carries both positive and negative connotations), offers an intimate exploration of the author's relationship with alcohol. Dorey is best known as the editorial director of 'Figaro Vin' for the large national French newspaper 'Le Figaro', which leads her to taste and review wine even in the early hours of the day. She also specializes in natural wine and gastronomy.
'À nos ivresses' is a moving and powerful memoir that offers a nuanced perspective on the complicated nature of our relationship with alcohol as a society. Dorey's writing is lyrical and poetic, her descriptions of the sensory experience of drinking are particularly vivid, evoking the taste, smell, and feel of alcohol with precision. This story invites the reader to celebrate and reflect upon all forms of inebriation.
Unfortunately for now it is only available in French but if you can speak the language this book is highly recommended!
