Secondo Me Vino Bianco 2017 (Maurizio Ferraro) Timorasso, Chardonnay / Nebbiolo, Barbera, Grignolino 🍇 ▫️ The world upside down in a bottle here 🙃 ! Very exciting Orange wine with a really nice story. It is a rare blend of red and white grapes. ▫️ Because of a bad harvest, with a lot of struggles, there was not enough grape volume to make the amount of Orange wine that was desired. Therefore the wine maker was forced to make a creative and smart concession; blending red and white grapes together. ▫️ But since the goal was to make an Orange wine the red grapes were directly pressed separately without any skincontact and that juice was later added to the white grapes which where fermented on the skins for 3 months, and so all processed together still making the wine nice and Orange 🙂🧡 ▫️ Pretty cool experiment. Things like this often result in great unexpected creations. ▫️ It has unconventional tones of raw vegetables like paprika and the green of tomatoes. Thyme and bay leaves give it a bit more character and forward minerality elements like iron and clay give it some depth. The 3 months of skincontact are giving it good and neccecary tannins. It becomes more fruity after it gets some time to breathe. ▫️ Even though it is quite a wild wine I would not really label it as funky, because for me it was not yeasty, which is also very good here with a wine that actually has a nice and clean character from itself. ▫️ Pairing it with a Roman vegetarian funghi mushroom pizza was a really good combination! ▫️ Also the bottling is cool because it comes in a cheap beer bottle ! 😁 ▫️ Sweetness: dry, Acidity: high, Tannin: high, Body: medium+, Finish: medium. ▫️ Rating: 😣 [* * * * * * * * ⭐ *] 😁 ▫️ A nine because of the process and the originality ! ▫️ I had this wine in Solovino Enoteca Naturale in Rome.
