The Lo Puy project was established in 1999 in the Maira Valley (Cuneo), specifically in Ruà del Puy (a hamlet of Podio). Located on a picturesque promontory at an altitude of 1,000 meters, Lo Puy offers a unique opportunity to explore a small Alpine world centered around a permanent goat farm, a dairy, an agritourism, and a ceramics workshop.
The family behind Lo Puy consists of Jors, Marta, Caterina, Mario, along with two employees named Omar and Paolo. What sets Lo Puy apart? Caterina explains, "Dad says we don't have to brag about it! However, I believe our uniqueness lies in being a true agritourism that presents the complete supply chain, from the goats and pastures to the dairy, from the fields to the gathering of wild herbs, from vinegar to cider. An attempt is made to exclusively valorise our products and those of the surrounding area without much rhetoric, but real substance."
At Lo Puy, the introduction of natural wine came about through recommendations and personal experiences. Caterina explains, "A friend, in particular, introduced us to wineries that have been dedicated to this path for years. We immediately noticed a similarity in methods and intentions between their wine production and our own cheese production. Just as we avoid using ferments, molds, and external yeasts in our cheese-making process, instead enhancing indigenous ones, the wineries we feature on our menu also align with our philosophy. We have personally visited and know each of these wineries." In addition to the agritourism activities, Lo Puy offers accommodation in rooms that have been restored using green building criteria, incorporating natural insulation materials like cork and sheep wool and using wood from the surrounding woods and a photovoltaic system with heat pump as an energy source.
