La Buvette is a unique natural wine bar located in Embrun, a picturesque town in the Hautes-Alpes region of France. Situated on a charming side street, it was opened in December 2022 by Mathilde and Laura, who are partners and friends. La Buvette stands out as the only natural wine establishment in the entire region.
Mathilde, who previously operated an Argentinian empanadas food truck, leads the kitchen at La Buvette. Laura, a trained sommelier, takes care of the service and curates the wine list. Their close-knit partnership ensures that every decision is made as a team.
What sets La Buvette apart? Aside from being the sole natural wine bar for miles around, it offers an inviting space that strikes a perfect balance between intimacy and a lively atmosphere, depending on the evening.
Their wine selection is noteworthy, featuring excellent wines local young winemakers. They collaborate closely with notable names such as Max and Angela from Les Raisins suspendus, Mickaël Olivon from Domaine des Hauts Lieux, Guillaume Yvetot from Le Chai Perché, and Yann de Agostini from Domaine du Petit Août. Laura and Mathilde were initially fans of these exciting winemakers before becoming their customers.
Embrun and the Hautes-Alpes region are known for their seasonal activities, with ski resorts attracting visitors in winter and mountains and water sports being popular in the summer. This dynamic nature makes it challenging for smaller bars and restaurants to thrive. However, we highly recommend paying a visit to La Buvette for its warm hospitality, delicious aperitif planchas, and outstanding wine selection. It is truly commendable to see them championing natural wine and promoting organic, artisanal products in their region.
