La Brinca, is originally a farmhouse named after Texinin (Teresina) dei Brinche, which was her home in the mid-19th century.
Today, it is run by the Circella family who transformed it into a tavern with a wine cellar in 1987. The family includes Pierangela and Sergio, their sons Matteo and Simone, Roberto (Sergio's brother) with his son Stefano, and collaborators, most of whom are from the village of Ne where La Brinca was created in the province of Genoa.
La Brinca's cuisine offers traditional Eastern Ligurian dishes made with local products and served with a selection of natural wines. Matteo, the owner, is passionate about wine and was awarded by the Michelin guide in 2021. Dishes like Prebugiun di Ne, Panella, Panissa, Baciocca, Frisciulle, Testaieu, Picagge, Tuccu, Tomaxelle, Sancrau, and Panera showcase ancient flavors and tell the story and culture of the land and its people.
What makes the restaurant unique is their dedication to craftsmanship, love for their land, passion, and persistence. The natural wine scene in Liguria is thriving, with high-quality wines being produced by the region's producers. Many young operators and wine enthusiasts are embracing natural wine, which bodes well for the future of the industry. La Brinca began serving natural wine in the late 1990s, thanks to the Circella family's visionary producer friends.
Sergio says that "natural wine is not a fashion, nor an inner circle: those who produce natural wine today are pioneers. It should be the goal of all winemakers, in order to safeguard the land and avoid the disaster of soil impoverishment."
Matteo adds: "In recent times, the world of wine has changed a lot, and I believe that the new generations of winemakers and sommeliers are taking an important stance to ensure a healthier and more sustainable product. I think this partly reflects the new awareness of the contemporary consumer in search of a consistent, artisanal product, which has facilitated the current shift in perception. Wine is no longer just a bottle to be uncorked and drunk, but an expression of a coherent world of ideas, comparisons, and people."
