4.8 ha in Organic Soil Conservation Agriculture
Vineyard in agroforestry where trees, brambles and meadow coexist in a more or less orderly (but very thoughtful) way with the vine in order to work on living soils with the aim of obtaining a singular expression in the wine in each plot.
Most of the work is done by hand. Tractors are permitted for the few treatments that are carried out when necessary and for the annual mowing between the rows of vines before the harvest.
We practice physiological pruning with strict adaptation of the load to the vigor, early disbudding up to the flower, braiding, permanent natural ground cover throughout the year.
The grape varieties are centered around our beloved Cabernet Franc on a fragmented plot of old vines (planted between 1942 and 1980) which occupy most of our time although two replantings and a small plot of old Chenin have been added recently.
The wines are crafted with passion, without sulfur or mechanization in the cellar. From harvesting to barreling, everything is done by hand. Pressing is relatively long (between 48 and 72 hours) and bottling is done by hand with care and using gravity.
A small trading structure allows us, in some years, to indulge ourselves by buying grapes from other winegrowers or supplementing a harvest that wasn't bountiful enough. The grapes are cultivated according to the rules of Organic Agriculture, the vines are always over 60 years old (before the advent of cloning), the cuvées are single-vineyard, the yields are relatively low (averaging 17 hl/ha in 2021, 2022 and 2023), and the wines are made with the same love as those of our vines.
In order to differentiate the négociant cuvées from those of the estate: the " La Ronce Bleue " logo is put on the labels of the estate's vines, the " La Sauvagère " logo corresponds to the négociant cuvées.
