Morlanche is a small estate located in Arlebosc, in the Doux Valley, north of the Ardèche.
It is within the family house, in Morlanche therefore, that we made the choice, in 2015, to build our life project, to cultivate vines and make wine, in the house and on the lands of the great Brice's parents, where they themselves (and their ancestors before them) did, a few decades ago. This project is born from a shared desire to preserve and bring to life this local and family heritage.
It all starts from the small plot of old Gamay vines kept above the house, which we have always maintained and harvested as a family.
In 2016, the adventure begins for us when, for the first time in 40 years, the grapes from this plot are not sold and stay at home: this will be our very first cuvée (300 bottles), vinified in the old vaulted cellars of the house that are back in service!
Morlanche is now a small estate that is gradually being built up, one foot at a time: from 2,000 m2 in 2016 to almost 3 hectares today.
We cultivate old Gamay vines from 60 to 80 years old, a historic grape variety from the Vallée du Doux, and we have replanted young plants, partly on old plots of vines, Viognier, Marsanne, Roussane, Syrah and Pinot Noir, the fruit of which will begin to be harvested soon.
On these young vines, we work the soil with a pickaxe and we use a micro-tractor to scribble the inter-rows.
The old vines are not mechanizable, we maintain them by hand and it has always seemed obvious to us to do so without weedkillers or synthetic pesticides and in a manner respectful of the soil, biodiversity and vine cycles.
Sulfur and Bordeaux mixture treatments only.
The yields are limited and the harvest is manual and the grapes carefully sorted.
The wines are produced as naturally as possible, they are neither leavened, fined or filtered. Only a small dose of sulphites is added to the bottling.
All the grapes come from the vines we cultivate.
