The vineyard

The 5 hectare vineyard in Cairanne is oriented on the north-west slope of the Col du Débat. This exposure contributes to the natural sanitation of the vines thanks to direct exposure to the mistral. The plots are located between 200 and 280 meters above sea level, on predominantly clay-limestone soils.

In 2012 we expanded the estate by an additional 10 hectares located around our farm/cellar in Vaison la Romaine. These family vines have been passed down from father to daughter and from daughter to daughter (4th generation)! The story continues...The soil is mainly sandy, and allows us to produce wines with a structure different from Cairanne wines.

Work in the vineyard

We are artisan winegrowers, because the term artisan implies that we work manually, but above all peasant, because we have chosen to work the Earth to keep in touch with it, and in a natural way.

We found an answer and solutions to our personal convictions in organic farming and the use of certain precepts of biodynamics to have living soils, a better balance in the vines and promote exchanges between the roots and the soil through through micro-organisms. In our opinion, this is the only way the terroir can express itself to produce sincere and lively wines.

All work is carried out according to the lunar calendar. Compost preparations are sprayed and the soils are worked by plowing and scribbling several times a year. The phytosanitary protection of the vineyard is ensured by the use of natural volcanic sulfur and a minimum of copper.

In the cellar

The harvest is carried out by hand, with sorting by plot, housed in boxes to keep the bunches intact until the cellar. The grapes are partially destemmed and vatted without pumping. Fermentations start naturally, thanks to native yeasts, after cold maceration for a few days.

Each vat evolves at its own pace: vatting lasts approximately 3 weeks; some punching down and pumping over without aeration are carried out to retain more fruity aromas. Aging takes place in concrete vats for 8 months. The wines are racked only once before bottling.

Bottling is carried out according to the lunar calendar, to allow the daily fruit impulse to the wine before bottling.

<h3 class="pt-3">Le Vignoble</h3>
<p>Le vignoble de 5 hectares &agrave; Cairanne est orient&eacute; sur le versant nord-ouest du Col du D&eacute;bat. Cette exposition contribue &agrave; un assainissement naturel des vignes gr&acirc;ce &agrave; l&rsquo;exposition directe au mistral. Les parcelles sont situ&eacute;es entre 200 et 280 m&egrave;tres d&rsquo;altitude, sur des sols majoritairement argilo-calcaire.</p>
<p>En 2012 nous aggrandissons le domaine de 10 hectares suppl&eacute;mentaires situ&eacute;s autour de notre ferme/cave &agrave; Vaison la Romaine. Ces vignes familiales ont &eacute;t&eacute; transmise de p&egrave;re en fille et de fille &agrave; fille (4&egrave;me g&eacute;n&eacute;ration)! L'histoire continue donc encore...Le sol y est principalement sableux, et nous permet d'y produire des vins avec une structure diff&eacute;rente des vins de Cairanne.</p>
<h3 class="pt-3">Le travail de la vigne</h3>
<p>Nous sommes artisans vignerons, parce que le terme artisan implique que l&rsquo;on travaille manuellement, mais surtout paysan, parce que nous avons fait le choix de travailler la Terre pour garder le contact avec elle, et de mani&egrave;re naturelle.</p>
<p>Nous avons trouv&eacute; une r&eacute;ponse et des solutions &agrave; nos convictions personnelles dans l'agriculture biologique et l'utilisation de certains pr&eacute;ceptes de la biodynamie pour avoir des sols vivants, un meilleur &eacute;quilibre dans les vignes et favoriser les &eacute;changes entre les racines et le sol par l&rsquo;interm&eacute;diaire des micro-organismes. C&rsquo;est &agrave; notre sens uniquement ainsi que peut s&rsquo;exprimer le terroir pour avoir des vins sinc&egrave;res et vivants.</p>
<p>Tous les travaux sont effectu&eacute;s en fonction du calendrier lunaire. Des pr&eacute;paras de compost sont pulv&eacute;ris&eacute;s et les sols sont travaill&eacute;s par des labours et griffonnages plusieurs fois par an. La protection phytosanitaire du vignoble est assur&eacute;e par l&rsquo;utilisation de soufre naturel volcanique et d&rsquo;un minimum de cuivre.</p>
<h3 class="pt-3">En cave</h3>
<p>La vendange s&rsquo;effectue &agrave; la main, avec un tri &agrave; la parcelle, log&eacute;e en caisses pour maintenir les grappes intactes jusqu&rsquo;au chai. Les raisins sont partiellement &eacute;grapp&eacute;s et encuv&eacute;s sans pompage. Les fermentations d&eacute;marrent naturellement, gr&acirc;ce aux levures indig&egrave;nes, apr&egrave;s une mac&eacute;ration &agrave; froid de quelques jours.</p>
<p>Chaque cuve &eacute;volue &agrave; son propre rythme : les cuvaisons durent 3 semaines environ ; quelques pigeages et des remontages sans a&eacute;ration sont effectu&eacute;s pour garder plus d&rsquo;ar&ocirc;mes fruit&eacute;s. L&rsquo;&eacute;levage se fait en cuve b&eacute;ton pendant 8 mois. Les vins sont soutir&eacute;s une fois seulement avant la mise .</p>
<p>La mise en bouteille est effectu&eacute;e selon le calendrier lunaire, pour permettre l&rsquo;impulsion jour fruit au vin avant sa mise.</p>
