Christine and Joël Ménard settled in Rablay-sur-Layon in 1982. He is the son of a cooper converted into vines with the appearance of vats in the 1960s. After meeting with Christine in 1978, the couple decides to materialize this old dream by taking over the vineyards of Joël's parents. In 1989, they settled in a place called Hope and continued on their way with "at the bottom of their hearts, a little spark that motivates them every day to extract all the sincerity from their wines" Because the Ménards are those winemakers who dare and who try. They converted very early - in 1996 - to organic farming, then to biodynamics. They make it a point of honor to refuse any chaptalization (addition of sugar) or any oenological manipulation. Today, all the cuvées are under the Vin de France appellation. An act of militancy to continue making wines as they see fit, at most local. Besides these choices, there is also a solid peasant common sense as well as meetings with fabulous people to learn to go beyond customs and habits. Today their son Jérémy is joining them ... the next generation is guaranteed !!

Christine et Joël Ménard se sont installés à Rablay-sur-Layon en 1982. Lui est le fils d’un tonnelier reconverti dans les vignes avec l’apparition des cuves dans les années 1960. Après s’être rencontrés avec Christine en 1978, le couple décide de concrétiser ce vieux rêve en reprenant les vignes des parents de Joël.

En 1989, ils s’installent au lieu-dit l’Espérance et continuent depuis leur chemin avec « au fond du cœur, une petite étincelle qui les motive chaque jour pour extraire toute la sincérité de leurs vins »

Car les Ménard sont de ces vignerons qui osent et qui tentent. Ils se sont convertis très tôt – en 1996 – à la culture biologique, puis à la biodynamie. Ils mettent un point d’honneur à refuser toute chaptalisation (ajout de sucre) ou toute manipulation œnologique. Aujourd’hui, toutes les cuvées sont en appellation Vin de France. Un acte de militantisme pour continuer à faire des vins comme ils l’entendent, au plus du terroir.

A côté de ces choix, il y a également un solide bon sens paysan ainsi que des rencontres avec des gens fabuleux pour apprendre à dépasser les us et coutumes. Aujourd’hui leur fils Jérémy s’engage à leurs côtés…la relève est assurée !!
