A native of Loir-et-Cher, Bruno Duchêne acquired in 2002 small plots of vines on the steep hillsides overlooking Banyuls, at an altitude of 300 meters. In this harsh environment, where the arduousness of work is anything but an abstract notion, man performs hard work to maintain most of his vineyard in organic farming, some plots of which are pampered like small gardens. Admiring the work of Alain Castex (Le Casot de Mailloles), from whom he bought a few acres of vines, Bruno Duchêne works his vines with the same philosophy, uprooting the grass with a pickaxe and by hand. A slave labor! Through his winemaking choices, probably due to his origins and his Burgundian experiences, he makes Collioure wines which are the opposite of what is generally offered in the region.
