The Terroir is located at the entrance to the Verdon Natural Park, at the foot of the Alps and above the Maures massif, at a semi-altitude of 470 meters. The soils are mainly clay-limestone with some plots more marly, others more sandy, a diversity that ensures a strong effect of the terroir.
We are classified as IGP COTEAUX DU VERDON.
The area benefits from the mild Mediterranean climate, but also from the cool nights at altitude, even in summer.
Our aim was to run the vineyard organically from the start, respecting the lunar calendar and biodiversity.
Before the first planting of 2020, we prepared the soil: seeding the land to create green manure, draining certain plots, loosening the soil to encourage the roots to dive deep.
Since planting, we work the vines every year with a horse, for earthing up, digging up and weeding the vines. Every autumn, we grass each row of vines (rye, broad beans, peas, crimson clover) in order to produce green manure and maintain surface moisture. We are lucky to have a subsoil rich in water, even in summer.
We work the vines in the most natural way possible and for all actions, we follow the lunar calendar.
For treatments, we use a majority of natural ingredients: nettle manure, decoctions of yarrow, chamomile, horsetail, willow bark and oily maceration of garlic and citrus essential oil. We spray with energized water of silica 500 and ox horn 501. We have been ECOCERT certified on our vines, our olive trees since 2021 and on our wines since 2024. But we have not retained the DEMETER option, although we follow its principles.
We prune the vines as late as possible, to avoid spring frosts, which we can do given the small area planted, and we carry out a large green harvest in July, so as not to tire our young vines and to encourage rooting.
For the moment we have planted 3.6 ha of vines: 1.1 ha Syrah in 2020; 0.5 ha Rolle in 2021; 0.3 ha Viognier in 2021; 0.4 ha Marsanne in 2021; 0.4 ha Roussanne in 2021; 0.25 ha Carignan in 2022; 0.5 ha Grenache noire in 2023; 0.2 ha Rootstock. Most of our plants come from mass selection. We will stop at 5 ha of vines.
The first harvests of our Syrahs were made in 2022. Our whites were a little delayed due to repeated frosts. And in 2024, we were able to have a first harvest of our Carignans.
While waiting to be in full production, we will harvest from neighboring winegrowers who have the same philosophy as us, and produce merchant wine.
