The wine is a creation of Aline Domingues. She makes beautifully pure wines such as this Ciste, a blend of juice from white and blue grapes. The method of vinifying white and red together has a long tradition in places where the old mixed plantations have been preserved. In the past, most European vineyards used to plant white and black grapes together, but this method was 'rationalized away' in the course of the 20th century because it was seen as too labour-intensive for commercially oriented producers. Portugal kept many of these old plantations and these are being greatly revalued in these days of biodiversity and natural balances. The resulting wine is exactly what wine lovers are looking for today: light-hearted wines that are very versatile and can also be drunk chilled. However, don't be fooled by the light-footedness of this Ciste, because there is a very solid structure in the background. Uva is a village nestled between the mountains, surrounded by dovecotes and once many vineyards. This wine comes from a few remaining plots with a blend of indigenous grape varieties.
