Have you tried wine from Jean-Pierre Rietsch?
Jean-Pierre Rietsch carries on a legacy of winemaking in Mittelbergheim that spans 17 generations. Working the same vineyards and land as his ancestors, Jean-Pierre embodies the region's deep connection to its winemaking heritage.
The Rietsch family has been established in Mittelbergheim since the 17th century, working in a variety of vine-related trades, from cooperage to viticulture. In the 1970s, the estate was dedicated exclusively to winegrowing. Since several years, the estate has produced organic and natural wines. According to Jean-Pierre, making natural wine is above all about trusting your raw materials.
For the past fifteen years, their bottles have been brought to life by artists and friends who design their labels. Most of the labels that adorn their bottles are the result of a collaboration with visual artist and designer Marie Drea.
For the past ten years, Jean-Pierre has been exploring new winemaking methods, such as the creation of macerated wines. The grapes are left to macerate in the juice to extract coloring matter and tannins. He is also experimenting with a perpetual cuvée, which involves adding wines from the harvest each year to compensate for the wine that has been racked.
What's your favourite Jean-Pierre Rietsch cuvée?
