The solidarity farming project "Minga" has existed in Obermeilen on Lake Zurich for several years. Nearly 40 people, organized in an association, regularly harvest hardcore organic vegetables and fruit grown together. Jeannine and Lukas provide land, know-how, and much more, and sparked the project years ago. A perennial plot cultivated in the spirit of permaculture now complements the vegetable garden. When a vineyard became available for rent directly below the garden, passionate wine lovers Lukas and psychiatrist Klaus took heart and decided to make their own wine. They wanted to produce a simple wine, like in the old days. Ideally, with a low footprint, organic, and pure nature.
On the 0.3 hectares of vines, the grapes are tended and harvested with the assistance of organic winemaker Markus Weber from Turmgut Erlenbach. Markus Weber is responsible for the vinification. Using fungus-resistant grapes (piwi), the wine enthusiasts save themselves a lot of plant protection and can successfully keep fungal diseases at bay with diluted milk and acetic clay. They grafted old vines, and in 2021, they had their first small harvest. At 600 bottles, the harvest is very small, but fine! With Markus, they have an experienced winemaker at their side who is helping to produce another excellent white and orange wine from the Lake Zurich region.
