Gratavinum - Jordi Fernández
Gratavinum is a small winery located in Gratallops, in the heart of Priorat, founded in 2003. Jordi Fernández is the winery's winemaker and alma mater.
Our vineyards grow on terraces rich in llicorella (slate) where we grow strains of Cariñena and Garnacha, local varieties perfectly adapted to the harsh climate and the typical soil. We also have olive trees with which we make a limited edition of organic extra virgin olive oil.
The uniqueness of the llicorella, a rock formed by compacted clay sediments over thousands of years, is part of the magic of our wines, as it gives them the characteristic mineral character of Priorat wines.
With a minimum intervention in the winery, and working with clay amphorae and demijohns, we manage to maintain the fruit character of the grape and the intrinsic characteristics that the llicorella soils give it.
In accordance with our philosophy of maximum respect for the environment and biodiversity, we cultivate our vineyards in a biodynamic way, without the use of pesticides or herbicides, certified since 2012 by Demeter. All our wines are certified organic by the CCPAE.
We do not water our vines so that their roots are as deep as possible, seek water, better resist periods of drought and at the same time extract all the character of the soil.
Gratavinum is one of the most innovative wineries in Priorat, pioneers in sulphite-free winemaking. In 2017 our Silvestris wine was chosen among the 10 best natural wines in the world by Decanter magazine.
