The winery is divided in two main propreties: Quinta do Casal do Paço spreads over nearly 20 hectares of land and forests, four of which are vines and another four of chestnuts orchards. Quinta Casanova was designed designed by Carvalho Araújo, it is a highly functional building and a stunning piece of contemporary architecture. Aphros wine make biodynamics wines. All wines are made with gentle, minimalist intervention following the principle of “nothing added, nothing taken away” so as to respect the original vitality and integrity of each grape. Only spontaneous fermentations, absence of filtration in most wines and much reduced levels of sulfites (mostly used before bottling). Wishing to expand the winery into a place of cultural and social fruition, a visitors’ center is now in place aiming at widening bonds and sharing inspirations with all who seek first contact or to deepen understanding and enjoyment of natural wines in a living context. Tastings take place in a beautifully renovated old stone building, framed by a large, pergola covered traditional stone patio on the north side and a garden on the south, creating a succession of differentiated areas designed for the enjoyment of wines, food, and conversation.
