LOVE AND CARE for the land have always characterized my family's history. In life I am an architect, but I have never neglected the land that my parents left me as an inheritance. Over time I have tried to make improvements by planting and transforming the vineyards, focusing on vines that could allow me to achieve excellent results and which, at the same time, were an expression of my land: Daunia. So it was that in 2000, in order not to lose the right, I planted my first vineyard, favoring native vines, such as the Troia grape, Montepulciano and the red Negroamaro; Bombino, Moscato and white Malvasia. The project was to create great wines to give visibility to my territory. After the first years of experimentation for family use I decided to focus everything on the Troia grape, so in 2005 I also transformed the existing tent vineyard into espalier rows. Unfortunately, professional commitments prevented me from taking the next step, that is, opening my small winery, until the economic crisis of 2008 took over, which mainly affected the construction industry. Thus it was that the “Leonardo Pallotta” winery was born in 2012, thanks also to the collaboration of the oenologist Dr. Christopher Pastore. We started with the first idea, that of producing the first Nero di Troia DOC from the San Severo DOC, one of the oldest in Italy, which I dedicated to my wife Clelia: DONNA CLELIA. With the other vines we decided to create two blends: Montepulciano, Negroamaro and uva di Troia (red and rosé); bombino, malvasia and moscato (macerated white and macerated passito). I gave these wines the name "I tre Volti" (red, rosé and white), because, in addition to the 3 vines, there are also three aspects of the landscape of Daunia: the Dauni mountains, the Tavoliere, the Gargano sea with the Tremiti islands. I dedicated the passito to my parents, who had left me so much beauty in their custody, and so "GONEIS" from the ancient Greek. As the satisfaction increased, also due to the various awards, in 2015 I planted another small vineyard, in order to reach a production of around 7000 bottles. 60% of this production is made up of “Donna Clelia” doc/riserva both red and rosé, while the rest is made up of “I tre Volti” and “Goneis”. The wines produced in this way are the result of the great work done above all in the vineyard and then in the cellar, with a low yield per plant (2 kg) and very few treatments (sulphur and copper), in order to obtain fine grapes which allow me to make wines of great quality. “Artisanal” wines with the sole use of very few sulphites, spontaneous fermentation and without filtration. Their refinement goes from 2nd passage French oak barriques (red and passito), with subsequent refinement in the bottle before marketing, while for rosé and white, steel and bottle.
