Antonio Quarta is the soul of this project, everyone knows him simply as Q, and that's where the name of the winery and the wines comes from. He defines himself as a lifelong wine enthusiast, a curious drinker, a collector of fine labels, but also an artist, given his past as a student at DAMS in Bologna and as a photographer on sets. So when did the spark ignite, you ask? When did Antonio decide to become a wine producer? The matchmaker was the meeting with Mina del Prete, daughter of the "supreme" Natalino del Prete, one of the historic and most authentic faces of natural wine in Italy. Some meetings truly change your life and this is exactly one of them.
Agricola Q is based in Salento, a scenic pearl of Italy and the homeland of the most famous southern rosés in the world; right in the heart of the DOC Salice Salentino, Antonio purchased four hectares of vineyards planted with Negroamaro. The classic Apulian sapling plays the starring role, with plants ranging from 10 to 30 years old, with a density of 5,000 plants per hectare. The company subsequently expanded with a small cellar surrounded by another hectare of vineyard. Following the non-interventionist and environmentally friendly footsteps that have always distinguished Natalino's agricultural work, Antonio and Mina created a line of wines, vinified with indigenous yeasts and packaged with a low level of added sulphites, which stands out for its young, light, pop and unconventional style, distancing itself from the traditional methods of processing the grapes typical of the area that have often produced gastronomic, opulent, high-alcohol wines.
