The Makharebeli winery was founded by two friends in 1999 and since then, as their families have grown, the number of vineyard caretakers has increased (they now have seven children each, who are involved in the winemaking process). The vineyard is located in the micro-zone of Kakheti, Mukuzani and Vazisubani, in the Alazani valley, from which the amber-coloured Rkatsiteli and the exclusive purple Saperavi are made. The Rkatsiteli-Mtsvane vineyard covers 1.5 hectares, and the Saperavi vineyard about 0.5 hectares. Our wine is natural, the vineyard is treated only with Bordeaux mixture and sulphur, without herbicides and is not irrigated; we use horses and tractors. Makharebeli Winery has been a member of the NWA (Natural Wine Association) since 2019 and our wine, which is made in Kvevri - located in our winery in Tbilisi - is sold in the best wine shops in town.
