Sans Terre is a project that came to fruition in 2021 after several years of reflection and listening to my fellow winemakers. We are located in the Gard Rhodanien region, in a highly agricultural and wine-growing area, with the winery in the village of Cavillargues and the vineyards in the commune of Sabran. Following the advice of winemaking friends, I decided in 2020 to launch my own business as a wine merchant and producer.
Not being entirely comfortable with the role of a wine merchant, I found two fellow organic winegrowers to reserve some land for single-vineyard wines. I built my cellar during the spring/summer of 2021 and simultaneously launched a crowdfunding campaign because I no longer had the funds to buy the first harvest. The amount raised determined the quantity of grapes harvested, which in 2021 was 30 hectoliters.
We harvest our grapes ourselves by hand into small crates. Fermentation and maceration take place with whole bunches and indigenous yeasts, with little or no added sulfites. Aging occurs in concrete tanks or barrels. The wines are Côtes du Rhône and Côtes du Rhône Villages appellations. Maceration and aging are lengthy. We prefer mature wines that express the nuances of the terroir as fully as possible, while retaining freshness and fruitiness.
For cost reasons, and sometimes because some plots are undergoing conversion, we do not claim the Organic Label. 🇫🇷
