Clos Sur Vivant - Nic and Jeff Roy

Clos Sur Vivant is a family project on a 6-hectare land close to Quebec City ( 1.25 vines, 2 hectares of forest, 3.75 vegetable and grains, fruit trees, and flowers). 2 brothers Nic and Jeff grow the vines and make the wine.

Our father helps out a lot with the machinery ( 1 small tractor + equipment) and growing still garlic - potatoes and family garden.  The land was before taken to make vegetables, corn and potatoes by our grandfather and then our father. Our Mom is there to encourage us and stimulate us a lot to make sparkling wine because she loves it :).
She supports us a lot with her good mood and energy around the project.

Nic has been teaching himself viticulture since 2017 (his first vintage ). He gets the knowledge by experimentation, exchange with other winemakers and exchange with Jeff on the wine and vinification
Jeff is an importer and wine shop owner in Berlin, Germany: Rocket Wine Berlin. He gets inspired by all the winemaker he meets in Europe and bring ideas and knowledge to the project.

We are located in St-Charles de Bellechasse, on the south shore of Quebec City, 12 kilometers from the St. Lawrence River, on the beautiful fertile lands of the St. Lawrence. We have mixed soils of sand, clay, shale, and quite a few rocks underground. Our land remains very rich in arable soil.

We have 1.25 hectares of vines, 4,500 vines. In 2024, we produced a total of 3,200 bottles.
The goal in the near future is to produce 5000-6000 bottles. A plantation of an extra 1500 is on the way.
We planted the first vines ( hybrids ) in 2010 ( 1500 vines ). In 2019 we planted 1500 (hybrids) again and another 1500 ( hybrids) in 2021. In 2023 we started experimenting with vitis vinifera... lets see where it brings us
We sell our wine in the Province of Quebec only. Maybe in the future in Europe is the interest is there.

We get lot of support from Jacopo Stigliano  winemaker in Emilia Romagna) since years. He advises us on viticulture principles and helps us find varieties and winemaking techniques that could work where we are.
