Their vineyards are located in Retz and Haugsdorf—two places with distinct terroirs. While white grape varieties dominate in Retz, Haugsdorf has always been a stronghold for red wine. In Retz, cool nights and massive granite formations shape the terroir, whereas Haugsdorf features sandy loam soils with a limestone content.
This duality runs throughout their story: brother & sister, Retz & Haugsdorf, stone & sand, white and red wine.
In total, they cultivate 3 hectares. Manual vineyard work and hand-harvesting are a given. Their vineyards are permanently covered with naturally occurring grasses, and fruit trees enhance biodiversity in the landscape. In the cellar, the guiding principle is low intervention.
We manage our winery according to organic principles. From the very beginning, avoiding herbicides and insecticides has been a matter of course for us. We use organic sheep manure from a farmer friend as a natural fertilizer in our vineyards and produce our own compost. For this, we use, among other things, straw from our family's own production. Additional measures include spreading sheep’s wool in the vineyards to protect against wildlife browsing.
Currently, we are not yet organically certified, but we plan to achieve certification in the near future.
