In 2018, Tino Kuban, a 30-year-old Berliner, bought the Bernard Van Berg estate in Meursault and named it “Les Jardins Vivants”. There, he pampers 1.5 ha of vines planted partly in stakes with negligible yields. The apices of the vine are braided and the tillage is as light as possible to avoid compacting them. It prunes short and never strips, only the hearts are removed. Yields remain below 10hl/ha and the load per vine no more than 4 bunches. The harvest is carried out to the benefit of the morning freshness, over several passages (up to 4), to harvest only the berries at optimal maturity and to sort drastically. In the cellar, he vinifies in the most natural way possible. Vertical press, no pump, everything is done by gravity and without racking. Whole bunches and new Stockinger barrels (leaflets, 228 or 400l open). The wines are bottled directly from the barrel using a two-beak goat. Alongside the estate, he started a small trading activity under the name “Maison Glandien”. For this, he sources superb grapes from here and there, in Burgundy, in Beaujolais, but also in Alsace and in the Jura. In the cellar, he vinifies in the most natural way possible with constant rigor. Trade wines certainly, but with the intention of making them as lively as possible. In terms of experience and background, Tino is not to be outdone. Following a Viti-Oeno diploma in Germany, he travels across the globe to gain experience and refine his vision of wine. He will pass among others at Dard & Ribo, Pierre Overnoy, Domaine de la Tournelle, Philippe Bornard, Mullineux in South Africa, Sato Wines, Felton Road and Burn Cottage in New Zealand.
