The Domaine Gramenon, created in 1978, is located in MONTBRISON-SUR-LEZ in Drôme provençale, in the first foothills of the Pre-Alps, at an altitude of 350 m. In the northernmost part of the southern Côtes du Rhône. TERROIR ________________ The originality of the Gramenon terroir comes from the limestone bar (tidal system) formerly covered by the sea (86 million years ago). The push of the Alps made emerge layers of sands left by the tides, an important limestone presence, thus formed a wide plateau of 550 m and benefiting from a slight altitude, while the clays were brought by the system river. VEGETABLE HERITAGE ____________________________ Grenache is the grape best acclimatized to our latitudes, expressing itself here in elegance and freshness. Proof of this is the presence of numerous plots of old vines (50 to 120 years old). The cumulative influence of the age of the vines (and therefore of the deep roots) and the specific character of the soil, gives the wines a particular and original profile. To perpetuate the exceptional quality of the plant heritage, each planted vine comes from the estate's massive selection. OUR PRACTICES IN THE VINEYARD ______________________________ Since its creation in 1978, the vine has been cultivated in a natural and organic way. Despite everything, the need to orient ourselves towards biodynamics was felt. The first climatic accidents of the 2000s having impacted the vitality of the old vines, we started biodynamic practices and the DEMETER certification arrived in 2010. The energization of the soil and the strengthening of the plant's defenses were immediate and very convincing. A new energy is manifested in the plots. Each plot is considered in a specific way, with its own identity. This increased vitality in the plot is reflected in the quality of the wines. The choice of the harvest date is a crucial and determining point. The intrinsic quality of the grape can only be expressed with real maturity. The harvest is exclusively manual with careful sorting. OUR PRACTICES IN THE CELLAR _____________________________ The main idea is maximum respect for the grape. For this, no use of grinding material (grounds pump, worm screw). The grapes are conveyed by vibrating table and conveyor belt to the concrete tanks. We sulphite only and very slightly after the Malo Lactique fermentation if necessary. The aging takes place in vats for the Spring cuvées and in old barrels for the cuvées from old vines. Purity being the always inaccessible and utopian finality of history we strive to express as closely as possible, avoiding betraying them, the terroir and the grape, by adapting to the effects of the vintage as well as possible.
