Ampeleia is a winery from the Upper Tuscan Maremma located in Roccatederighi, a particular medieval village. It is managed by a group of young people led by Marco Tait, winemaker and company manager, who took the reins from the first day of Ampeleia, at only 22 years old.
Ampeleia was born in this area for the communicative power of this place and for its unique characteristics.
In this part of Maremma the division between agricultural and wild is not so clear; here the vineyard coexists with the wood, the wheat fields with the Mediterranean scrub.
Monoculture gives itself to biodiversity, a foundation as precious as it is rare to be able to apply a respectful agriculture and obtain live wines that speak of this territory.
Ampeleia works 35 ha of vineyards submerged in 51 ha of wood.
The vines range from heights of 200m above sea level to as high as 600m and sit on incredibly diverse soils, which also vary from meter to meter. For this reason Ampeleia works for plots and with both Mediterranean vines such as Alicante Nero, Carignano and Trebbiano and more continental vines such as Cabernet Franc.
In the vineyard we work entirely according to the practices of biodynamic agriculture, where even biodynamic preparations are produced internally using the manure of their own cows.
In the cellar a light and listening approach is followed. Vinification and aging take place mainly in cement, only spontaneous fermentation and use of indigenous yeasts, no filtration or clarification, addition of minimal doses of sulfur only in pre-bottling.
