A little history … For more than 30 years we have been traveling through the vineyards of 4 continents. These agricultural landscapes, among the most beautiful in the world, have marked us, inspired by their poetry, by this alliance between the tenacity of the vine and that of the men who cultivate it. And then, there was this moment when the dream of the land asked to be incarnated, or the imperious need to make our vineyard was felt so strongly that we had to take action, plant our own vineyard, according to our own convictions, choose our terroir according to our own criteria, make our wine according to our own sensitivity. For this we had to choose from the regions we crossed, a place, a climate, a story to make our dream come true. It is on the ancient and partly abandoned terroir of Cahors that we have set our sights. Already in the 19th century Guyot said "Cracked or cracked rock exists immediately and at an indefinite depth under the weak layer of cultivable soil, but the vines can launch their roots deep into the beds and joints of these rocks, draw strength from them. considerable trunk and a virtually unlimited duration". Further Guyot writes: "Anyway, I have never seen vineyards more picturesque, more regular and better kept than those of the Lot" Know-how and elbow grease… We prospected in its historic heart near Laroque des Arcs in the middle of hills covered with brambles and tortuous oaks and we retained a hillside looking at the rising sun, abandoned for 140 years, with intact biodiversity. We have cleared this hillside while preserving hedges and trees. We have restored this land to its former nobility. A “Terroir” is a place, an identity that should not be adapted by the winegrower, so that the soil restores to the wine the singular character, and the energy of the place where the vine was born. In the middle of the brambles we found old walls which delimited the plots three small houses of winegrowers, a caselle, a shelter for mules and a well always filled with water. After deforestation, the restoration of the built heritage After the soil analyzes we delimited the zones for the white grape varieties and those for the reds. We wanted to honor the forgotten grape varieties of this region of the South West. We have chosen as rootstock the Rupestris du Lot, very much used in the past. Tillage becomes an essential act to maintain biology, biodiversity which will allow the roots to plunge into the interstices of the limestone rock. The rock “solubilized” by soil microbes will thus give minerality and complexity to the wine. And our vines bore our first grapes, as if to thank us for this rebirth. All our attention has been paid to the vineyard, the harvest is done by hand in crates transported quietly by Effraie our donkey. Emmanuel will vinify, raise these grapes without artifice, with native yeasts, to keep in the wine the spirit of the "place" where the vine grew. This patient work of craftsman who started from the soil to the vine and from the grape to the wine is the best testimony that we can give of our passion and our dream come true. Two cuvées are the result of this family work: Néphèle made from Sauvignon Blanc, Gris and native grape varieties. Nigrine made from Malbec and forgotten grape varieties.
