In 2013, the family bought an absolutely abandoned, uncultivated land in Kvareli. This land was used by the Soviet authorities in the 20th century and, therefore, we found it totally exhausted and eroded. We started revitalizing it. We built a bio-humus producing plant so as to restore soil fertility; we planted six most ancient Kakhetian grape varieties, including Mtsvivani, Khikhvi, Kisi, Kakhuri Mtsvane (Kakhetian Green), Saperavi and Vardisperi Rkatsiteli Pink Rkatsiteli). IWe held dozens of meetings with experts, with families producing qvevri wine (qvevri – a clay vessel for making and aging wine), as well as with winegrowers, winemakers and builders…and finally we decided that the collected information was what we actually possessed. So, taking into account the best practices of qvevri wine-making, we built a marani (a wine cellar), with a qvevri being the only wine vessel.
Our company began in 2014. Anapea is family business, which implies that, in all processes I and my husband are involved. We are a big family with many kids and relatives. I am sociologist, my husband is from marketing sphere, our professions have helped us with making a concept and strategy, how to implement our idea. We started with active consultations, interviews with professors of the wine and vineyard sphere, specialist in winemaking, we made a research of the field and after than we have made decisions. From the first day till today we are in the process of learning, and I think it should be our constant condition. Of course, we have helpers in vineyards and wine cellars, in Kvareli and Sagarejo who by their origins are winegrowers.
