Brutal 2016

Absolutely nuts. Like pickle juice, river stones, lemon, ginger beer and scrub. In its own class I feel it was way too much for me. Would not try this vintage again but recommend the experience for the crazy, sour, nose crinkling, thought provoking taste. Very light yellow colour and a wacky use ofVerdejo. I’d just love to know what the goal was!

Brutal 2017

Brutal !!! 2017 (𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗼 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀) 🍇100% Verdejo 🇪🇸 ▶️ More wines on my Instagram: @marcel.de.cocq Let's have it, I'm excited, an Orange Brutal! I like to see those two worlds come together in a bottle 😀 For a Brutal wine coming from Spain, where the whole Brutal concept was initiated by iconic, quite rebellious winemakers like Mendall and Escoda Sanahuja, it stands out and plays well in the game. It is good competition by being quite unlike any other Orange wine I had before. It is pretty funky like a Brutal should be funky! 🤟 It completely changes the perception of "Verdejo" and that is so cool. It had a Maceration of 7 months and has intriguing deep aromas of: Dried flowers with quite primary chamomile, manderin zest and tropical references like ripe papaya. Yeasts come forward on a medicinal undertone with eucalyptus-like hints of anise and liquorice root. Also a bit of wood and even light leather come to mind. It develops some more herbal elements on the palate when it opens up and even the licorice expresses also clearly in the taste. Balanced but firm sours and nice bitters give it spine and foundation. I can only imagine how this wine will develop if it gets more time to age! 🙂 Tech facts: "From: Spain, Castilla y León, Segovia, Nieva. Soil: Siliceous sands and Pebbles. Vinification: De-stemming, 7 months maceration in jars. Alcoholic fermentation with native yeasts. Ageing: 6 months in jars and 4 months in the bottle. Properties: Alcohol: 13,5 %, SO2: <10 mg/l, Residual sugar: <2 g/l" Sweetness: dry. Acidity: high. Tannin: medium-. Body: medium. Finish: medium+ Rating: 😣 [* * * * * * ⭐ * * *] 😁
