Azpillaga Urarte Viña el Pago is a red wine made in A.O.C. Rioja by Azpillaga Urate in Lanciego, Alava. Azpillaga Urarte is a family cellar that has been regenerated. In 1989 they rebuilt the family winery of Lanciego. When Eduardo took the reins of the winery in 2001, they started doing without herbicides and gradually entered what is called regenerative agriculture. They own 12 hectares spread over the cities of Lanciego, Elvillar and Kripan. Azpillaga Urarte Viña El Pago is mainly made with grapes Tempranillo, Graciano and some of Garnacha and Viura. Maceration is carbonic (traditional method of development in the region) is what is used in winemaking, and without yeast. The maceration lasts 2 to 3 weeks, then is left in storage for a few months.
