The Domaine de Cadeillac in Lavelanet de Comminges is 20 minutes south of Toulouse towards Tarbes. The Comminges is a micro region between Muret and Tarbes. History: historically, we were a big wine region. Many of our elders had vines on the Garonne terrace, hillsides or on the Pyrenean foothills. They made their own wine, certainly wines of a rather mediocre quality nevertheless with good methods and ancestral know-how. They worked with local cooperatives to extract a few liters and for their personal consumption. The major French wine authorities in the 1970s proposed a grubbing-up premium, which in a few years devastated all the plots of vines that made up our viticultural history. Our elders thought they were doing the right thing because the State had explained to them that by uprooting their vines, they would leave room for other winegrowers to set up shop! Things that never happened! Business vision and objectives: Bertrand decided in the early 2000s to take up the torch and try to bring our know-how up to date and again offer local wine. The challenge was substantial! But little by little, he replanted 10 hectares of vines including the following grape varieties: Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Marselan, Chenin and Mauzac. And at the same time, in the neighboring town of "St Elix le Château", he recovered 5 hectares of old vines with an average age of 60 (in 2000) including endemic grape varieties such as Abouriou, Gamay dyer and Alicante. After a few years of work, he released his first bottle in 2013 and was certified organic in 2015. At present, we work all the vines in animal traction via Flirt our Percheron, on biodynamic principles (biodynamic preparations, vegetable competition in the rows according to a lunar, astral calendar and the need for the vines) without going to seek the label. The work of the vine is done by hand according to our experience and learning. We use mechanization (Bordeaux mixture) when attacking mildew or other cryptogamic diseases in order to quickly manage their proliferation. Otherwise all the work is done by hand, just like the harvest. Typicality: Our vines are on the terraces of the Garonne. Our soil is made up of rolled pebbles, pebbles, silt and a layer of clay at a depth of 4 meters that promotes the root growth of the vines by feeding on water and minerals, allowing us to never water. (former bed of the Garonne and its tributaries) Due to the influence of the Pyrenees, we are in a microclimate, more or less capricious depending on the vintage. However perfect for the vine, because the plots are positioned south, south-west, with therefore a lot of sunshine. The Pyrenees allow us to bring freshness to the summer part, which favors us with a fairly balanced sugar level depending on the year. The Winery: We include glass resin vats, an ovoid vat, a 30 hl amphora, as well as oak barrels allowing us some refinements on certain cuvées. We offer a range of natural wines (without added sulphites) via carbonic vinification (whole bunches). As well as wines for laying down with very little sulphites so that everyone can find what they are looking for. Our objective on all the cuvées is the balance, and the aromatic of our typicity. Therefore, everything is natural, only in native. Zero fining or other exogenous inputs (idem for the vines). Our range consists of dry white wine, rosé wine, red wine, natural sparkling wine in single grape variety or blend. As we are not under the appellation regime (because we are almost the only ones in Comminges) this allows us to manage the cuvées by feeling according to the vintages. While remaining consistent on our wine range. For 2023 we want to be even more concerned about the ecological and climatic impact. We have decided to no longer put cols or marianne on our future cuvées. To flock our boxes in order to recover and reuse them.
