Cantina Giardino was officially born in 2003, but already five years earlier, thanks to the intuition of Antonio Di Gruttola, we had started producing wine (experimenting) without resorting to biotechnology. The idea was to make a wine through spontaneous fermentation, without filtration, without clarification and without the use of sulphites.
Our vision has always been clear: to enhance the historic vineyards, cultivated according to organic principles and without the use of systemic or synthetic products, to obtain wines that authentically express the territory of Irpinia. Here we work with plants that are on average 90 years old, some of which are even pre-phylloxera, capable of producing wines with strong minerality, acidity and depth.
Years of testing and research confirmed that this was the right path, and that the use of traditional and innovative containers – such as chestnut barrels, stoneware and terracotta amphorae, cement, glass demijohns and 220-liter wine globes – could further enhance the characteristics of each grape variety. The company was born thanks to the support of our historic friends, who believed in the project and in the skills of Antonio, the only winemaker and technician in the group.
Today our wines tell a story of passion, research and respect for nature, and are appreciated all over the world for their authenticity and ability to evolve over time.
We are also looking to the future: from July 2025 we will be ready to welcome enthusiasts to our new tasting room and wine laboratory, located in the historic underground caves of Ariano Irpino, a unique place where we preserve historic vintages and where the past and present of wine meet.
