Piandistantino wine was born from an idea of mine (Andrea) and of my brother Martino, the chef and owner of the farm. In 2016 I began to search for, cultivate and recover old abandoned vineyards from neglect, a small agricultural reconquest of the mountain area included in the municipalities of Rocca San Casciano, Portico di R., on the border with the Casentinesi Forest National Park. The vineyards, located on marly/arenaceous soils in the upper Montone and Tramazzo valleys, are located at an altitude between 350 and 500 meters and range in age from 20 to 80 years. In 2018 we took over management of another vineyard of around 9000 meters near Tredozio, the only one we cultivate with a tractor. Hand-made pruning, mowing and copper and sulfur treatments, and once in the cellar start of spontaneous fermentations and aging only in steel and concrete, no fining, and use of sulfur dioxide only in exceptional cases. Until the 1950s, viticulture was well present in the upper Apennines, almost all farmers had vineyards and produced their own wine. Then with the depopulation of the mountains, viticulture almost disappeared from these territories. Hence the idea of recovering and cultivating the few remaining vineyards and producing a «mountain wine» with its own recognizable identity.

Il vino di Piandistantino nasce da un'idea mia (Andrea) e di mio fratello Martino, il cuoco e titolare dell’agriturismo.
Nel 2016 ho iniziato a cercare, coltivare e recuperare dall’incuria vecchie vigne abbandonate, una piccola riconquista agricola dell’area montana compresa nei comuni di Rocca San Casciano, Portico di R., ai confini col Parco Nazionale delle foreste Casentinesi. 
Le vigne, situate su terreni marnoso/arenacei dell’alta valle del Montone e del Tramazzo, si trovano ad un'altitudine fra i 350 e i 500 metri ed hanno un'età variabile dai 20 ai 80 anni.
Nel 2018 abbiamo preso in gestione un’altra vigna di circa 9000 metri vicino a Tredozio, l’unica che coltiviamo con il trattore.
Potatura, sfalcio e trattamenti di rame e zolfo fatti a mano, e una volta in cantina avvio di fermentazioni spontanee e affinamento solo in acciaio e cemento, nessuna chiarifica, e uso della solforosa solo in casi eccezionali.
Fino agli anni 50 la viticoltura era ben presente nell’alto Appennino, quasi tutti i contadini avevano la vigna e producevano il proprio vino. Poi con lo spopolamento delle montagne la viticoltura è andata quasi scomparendo da questi territori.
Da qui l’idea di recuperare e coltivare le poche vigne rimaste e produrre un «Vino di montagna » con una sua identità ben riconoscibile.
