LOCATION

We are located near Manciano in the south part of toscana.

About 20 km from the coast and 450 m a.s.l.

We are on a hill at around 500 meters a.s.l. that overlooks the argentario sea.

The soil is sandstone with many slate rocks giving fine, fresh and elegant wines.

We do sulfur and copper treatments with our little tractor and feed the soil with some home made compost.

We have cover crops during spring and sheeps during winter.

Most of the work in the vines is manual, including the harvest.

ROOTS

Poggio Cagnano started back in 2005 when my dad had the vision to plant 0.5 hectares on a completely wild hill, abandoned for over 30 years.

Ten years later, in 2015, I decided to move to Maremma myself and change my life to become a winemaker. Had no experience, no idea.

Only what my dad taught me and a lot to learn. It took us many more years to build the road and a small cellar to be able to make wine here at Poggio Cagnano.

Meanwhile I met Eleonora, a local pastry chef who is now my girlfriend and partner in this project.

Every year we expanded our little garden a little bit more and today we grow 4,9 hectares of certified organic vineyard.

INFORMATION ABOUT EACH OF THE WINES YOU PRODUCE:

We have been making natural wines now since 2020. Inspired by friends and more experienced colleagues from the natural world we are finally making the wines that we feel best represent us and our territory. All grapes are de-stemmed, whites are lightly pressed while in the reds we try to preserve the berry intact.Natural fermentations for all the wines while the skin contact can vary from 2 days (whites) to 2 weeks (reds).No fining or clarifications, some wines might go through gross filtering (10 micron) before bottling.
