Cascina Corte is a small organic farm winery in the north of Italy, in the town of Dogliani, Piedmont, we live in the heart of the Langhe hills, one of the best areas for the production of Dolcetto di Dogliani. It is located just a few minutes from the center of Dogliani and 6 km from the village of Monforte d'Alba. We started in 2002 and our first aim was to become organic wine producer because we think that for living in the countryside you need no pollution at all. We have received the first organic certification in 2005. Our intention is to produce wine not for award or “bodybuilding” wine but wine with a very high digestibility and also fresh, elegant and clean. For this reason since 2003 in the cellar we don’t use added yeast in fermentation, we don’t filtre and clarify the wine. We try to use always the small possible quantity of sulphites. We look to maintain the health of our vines with entirely organic solutions, we use only verdigris and quarry sulphur. We only use organic manure on our vines, without chemical fertilisers. We take inspiration from certain principles of biodynamic agriculture and organic farming. At the centre of our attention is the fertility of the soil, which we nurture through the introduction of manure and green manure planting many different variety of seeds as clover, fava beans, hamp, barley and oat. Every year we spry one or two times 500 and 501 preparation. Our vineyards is full of flowers and we have also geese and chickens. The total planted area is around 8 hectars. The vineyards of Dolcetto date back to the late 40s, in the second post-war period, and produce about 40-45 quintals per hectare. We also grow Nebbiolo and Barbera. Starting this year we have begun to produce organic white wines with the first vintage of Riesling and Nascetta. In the future we are going to expand our production with Freisa and Pinot Noir. We have also been producing organic Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo and Nascetta (fermented and refined in terracotta amphorae) since four years. We produce between 25000 and 30000 bottles, 100% in a natural focused process. The owners of Cascina Corte, Sandro and Amalia, also manage a B&B in their farm house, where guests can lose themselves in a domestic atmosphere in the midst of our beautiful hills, part of the Unesco heritage. The restoration of the farm house was done preserving as much as possible of the original beautiful eighteenth-century building, using only natural materials and local workmanship. In addition to the family lodgings, there are 4 guest accommodations (all with private bathrooms and one with kitchen) that enjoy a wonderful relaxing view of the surrounding hills. We organize wine tastings for our customers.
