Domaine Belargus is the realization of the dream of a passionate, determined man. à restore its letters of nobility to a thousand-year-old vineyard. 100% dedicated to to the noble Chenin, the Domaine has given itself for mission to express the quintessence of the great terroirs of Anjou through through the prism of the parcel, in a parcel approach inspired by « climates » Burgundians. It takes its name from an endemic blue butterfly, the « Belargus », in homage to beauty and at fragility of Nature.
The adventure began in 2018... Built stone by stone by Ivan Massonnat, the Domaine farms twenty-four hectares spread over an unprecedented selection of grands crus, lieu-dits and monopolies.
Among its most remarkable plots:
- Les Quarts-de-Chaume (Grand Cru), center of gravity of the Domaine with ten hectares in one piece, distributed around the three historic localities of the appellation
- The Coteau des Treilles (Monopole), a model of heroic viticulture inherited from the by Jo Pithon: a steep and stony hillside having never known chemistry, located in the heart of an area classified as a Regional Nature Reserve
- Le Clos des Ruchères (Monopole) at Savennières, planté à even the rock a hillside of purple schists at the foot of Roche aux Moines
The young team at the Domaine works with passion and precision to produce « local wines », in Biodynamics. The vinifications are as little interventionist as possible and the aging is long (one to three years). Respecting the personality of of the vintage, Domaine Belargus delivers a collection of nine dry white wines each year and, in exceptional years, lets the magic of botrytis work to create a few sweet vintages.
