Made from the endangered local Negrettino grape, which has been rediscovered but remains very rare. The story is well known. On the advice of oenologists and agricultural experts, local grapes are being uprooted in favor of French varieties like Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, because they not only offer a standard flavor but are also easier to sell. Antonio Ognibene is one of the first, and still the few, to try to turn the tide by bringing these unknown local varieties into the spotlight. He is also a skilled winemaker, and we highly recommend his original and delicious wines. Intense ruby red, spicy, intriguing, pleasantly rustic, ripe red fruit, roses, black pepper, forest, and Mediterranean aromas. Smooth and pleasant to drink with that wonderfully characteristic Italian bitterness that makes these wines such a perfect pairing with food. Easily drinkable now but also suitable for extended periods. Perfect with stews, pasta with a heartier sauce, salumi, roasted meats, and mature cheeses.
