There are two of us: Gaia, Sicilian by birth, Manuela by adoption. Midia in 2021 definitively takes shape, body and courage. We continue to make wine from Vite ad Ovest, but we are looking for a vineyard of our own among the thousand parcels of the Marsala districts. We're in no hurry. Ours is a personal, agricultural and wine journey. And the journey, after all, has just begun. We are at the western end of Sicily, in Marsala, a seaside and border land in the exact center of the Mediterranean. A territory made up of infinite parcels of ancient and resistant vineyards, trained as saplings to better adapt to the climate of the area. Lots of sun, little rain and the salty wind blowing from the sea. An expanse of limestone-sandy land, rich in lush and exciting vineyards where our grapes arrive: Grillo and Frappato. Native blends, mostly pure. Short macerations and spontaneous fermentations in steel for direct wines of great freshness and simplicity. In the vineyard the intervention is minimal, only copper and sulphur. The harvest is manual. No filtration in the cellar. We want to capture the soul of the Marsalese lands in every single bottle. The salt of the sea, the fire of the earth, the thousand districts. Let's start with small steps. But with clear ideas.
