Fontorfio - Igino Brutti
Fontorfio is in Cossignano, a small medieval village in the Marche hinterland halfway between the Sibillini mountains and the sea. A country that has always lived on agriculture and Fontorfio was a farm that cultivated olive trees, cereals, grapes, produced wine and raised livestock. We arrived here years ago, and here we are continuing the work of the old farmers, maintaining their working methods, essentially manual, without the use of modern mechanics (except for a light caterpillar tractor), without chemicals and with the intention of preserving the territory.
The vineyards are located at 350 m. above sea level and the average composition of the soils is: sand 45%, clay 28%, silt 27%.
The treatments used in the vineyard are: copper hydroxide, mined sulfur, ampelomyces quisqualis (antagonistic mushrooms), self-produced nettle macerate.
Fertilization is done with multivarietal green manure.
In our cellar we do not use selected yeasts, we do not use sophisticated oenological practices, no filtrations or clarifications. The use of sulfur dioxide is reduced to the indispensable minimum and in some cases it is null.
