Piana dei Castelli

The Ceracchi family has occupied a historical role since the early 19th century in the wine proposal linked to the Velletri area. We are south-east of Rome, on those hills that define the Castelli Romani, a land dotted with over a dozen municipalities scattered between Lake Albano and Lake Nemi. All volcanic soils, rich in basalt and tuff, salts and mineral elements, for fresh and draining soils. Here, the young Matteo Ceracchi after completing his studies in enology in San Michele Appiano, decides to return and trace a path parallel to his commitment to the family business, creating a reality where he can experiment and dare, a sort of "free" place. "where you can give free rein to your courageous ideas and feelings. He maintains some family lands, rents and buys others and creates his own company, Piana dei Castelli: in fact a mosaic of vineyards spread over 11 municipalities, at different altitudes and with extremely contrasting soils. It cultivates native grapes such as Grechetto, Cesanese, Malvasia, Sangiovese, Trebbiano Giallo but also Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Merlot and Montepulciano, favoring microclimates, cycles of nature, varietal and soil specificities as much as possible. He treasures the expertise acquired during his studies in oenology but embraces a natural viticulture that paradoxically dismantles the technological training of the great oenological schools. It does not resort to synthetic products and works to express all the strength of the places and varietals in direct and unpredictable wines. This is Matteo Ceracchi, a chameleon, a dreamer, a provocateur, an experimenter.
