Mas des Escarades - Julien Bertrand
As close to nature as possible! The entire approach of the estate is based on respect for nature, whether in the vineyard, during winemaking, and right up to packaging.
In the vineyard, we have been practicing organic farming since 1983, when my father began to question his own practices and measured the importance of his impact on nature.
The estate has been certified biodynamic by DEMETER since 2023, a significant achievement. Therefore, the wines are certified biodynamic starting with the 2023 vintage.
In the cellar, I try to go far beyond certification.
No pumps are used; I work exclusively by gravity to preserve the natural quality of the grapes. The only extraction processes during vinification are manual punch-downs and gravity-fed racking. Pressing is carried out using pneumatic pressure to extract only the best from the pomace.
No inputs were used during the entire winemaking process.
Regarding our bottles, the estate is looking to go even further by reinstating a deposit system. I have a contract with "Ma bouteille s'appelle revient" (My bottle is called "Ma bouteille s'appelle revient") which guarantees optimal washing and disinfection of the bottles. This reuse of materials is an important part of the estate's ecological approach.
In addition, our labels are made of fully biodegradable seed paper and with organic ink, which allows the labels to be reused after tasting the wines.
Seed paper contains a multitude of seeds inside.
Simply peel off the label, cut it into small pieces and plant it in the ground to decorate your garden with wildflowers!
Life at the end of the circuit!
