After 15 years of experience in various professional fields, Jean Benoit and Bénédicte acquired an 18-hectare vineyard in the Coteaux d'Aix en Provence AOP in 2017. Organic certification was obtained in 2020. They restructured the estate by planting 11 varieties of white grapes!
The vines, planted with red grape varieties, have an average age of 35 years, and some are over 55 years old. The vineyard is distinguished by its unusual trellising system, natural grass cover in every other row, and green manure sowing. Soil cultivation is limited to the base of the vines to minimize compaction. The first vintage was produced at the estate in 2020 following the construction of a winery.
The grapes are harvested by hand into crates, and vinification is carried out using whole bunches by gravity. The red wines undergo a cold pre-fermentation of more than 7 days without crushing or punching down. Fermentation is achieved with indigenous yeasts and no additives. Sulfur is added only at the end of malolactic fermentation or at bottling. All wines, including the whites and rosés, are aged in egg-shaped tanks or 500L barrels for 6 months. Three red wines have been produced, all made from Cinsault grapes.
Their name evokes our history: Providence, Chemin Faisant, à l'Aventure (Providence, Along the Way, Adventure). An atypical rosé, vinified and aged in barrels. The first white vintage was released in 2021, a blend of Ugni Blanc, Vermentino, and Clairette. The key is expressing the grape variety and showcasing Cinsault and Carignan. A promising terroir for future white wines. Estate production: 15,000-20,000 bottles per year.
