Veritatis Fabricator is the micro-domain that proves the excellence of the Angevin terroir.
With 22 ares of Chenin and 44 ares of Cabernet Franc, Xavier Martin offers wines
natural products of exceptional quality.
Like a goldsmith's work, Xavier Martin carries out all the work in the vineyard and in the cellar.
He learned them on the job, working for more than 10 years in the key areas of
region: Land of the Chosen One, Belargus Estate, Little Sister Estate, Babass Vineyards,
Domaine Mosse...
In 2019, he created his own estate. In the cellar, on the tuffeau stones, he discovered a
inscription dating from the 16th century: VERITATIS FABRICATOR (Truth Maker).
The micro estate consists of two plots. They are located in the Layon Valley, on the
commune of St Lambert du Lattay, on a plateau south of the Butte de Chaume. They are
close to the Pont Barré nature reserve, as well as the Natura 2000 reserve, which gives them
offer great biodiversity.
The terroir is made up of the oldest rocks in Maine-et-Loire. Sedimentary rocks from
more than 580 million years old. It contains schist, spilites, and white quartz on a soil
clayey-silty.
In the vineyard, all work is done by hand or with a tractor. The only treatment
used is, in very low doses, Bordeaux mixture (copper and sulfur). No pesticides, herbicides,
no fertilizers, even of organic origin, are used.
At harvest time, the bunches of grapes are harvested manually at good
maturity. Once in the cellar, fermentation takes place naturally with indigenous yeasts
present on the berries. In the cellar, the alchemy is natural. The only interventions during the
winemaking, are rackings. Nothing is added, no natural, chemical or sulfite inputs.
Bottling is done manually, only once Xavier Martin estimates
that the wines are ready.
Alongside his wine estate, Xavier Martin is a supervisor and trainer for a company
insertion specialist in wine-growing and wine-making work in the Angevin region, thus combining
the human to the vineyard.
