Before arriving at the estate in 2017, Sylvain was an operations manager in the Médoc and Aude was a wine merchant in Libourne. Our paths crossed in the Argentinian wine country at the foot of the Andes Mountains.
Originally from the Bordeaux region and the Corrèze, we set out to discover wines from elsewhere. Domaine de l'Astré is the fruit of our meeting and our shared passion. We cultivate grapes on the border between the Gironde and Dordogne departments in the Périgord Pourpre region. Our vines flourish on a limestone cliff in a hilly landscape, 80 meters above the Dordogne Valley, sheltered only by a forest.
The vineyard comprises 8 hectares in a single block on a clay-loam terroir: 1.70 ha of Sémillon + 6.2 ha of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, with an average vine age of 35 years. The planting density is 5000 vines per hectare.
The estate has been in organic farming since 2012 and we have chosen to accentuate this orientation by implementing a biodynamic approach.
All our wines are vinified as naturally as possible with indigenous yeasts with very little handling of the harvest, and aged in old used barrels.
