Finca la Despeinada - Petra y Alex
We are Alex and Petra, a Franco-Austrian couple and together we form the
project "farm disheveled". We have a lot of "garbinada" (wind that comes from the sea) on our farm and that is why we and our plants are a bit disheveled, and we also leave a lot of wild herbs in our fields, which in comparison with the tilled and "clean" fields seem disheveled , and it could be that we don't comb our hair every day :)
Since 2016 we have lived on a farm in Bot and we are dedicated to viticulture and the production of natural wines. Our first vintage was 2017.
We work 4 hectares of fairly old vines (between 20 and 80 years old), some on the farm where we live and others between Bot and Gandesa.
We do all the work in the field and in the winery. We like that the jobs change during the year, from accompanying in the field and in the cellar, from pruning until putting the label. We are also lucky to have good friends who help us with the harvest.
Our vision is to work the fields with the utmost respect for biodiversity and the life and health of the soil. We spend a lot of time in the field, doing the work by hand, we try to enter very little with our small tractor (generally we till only once at the end of spring and we enter with the tractor in the harvest, everything else, too
treatments we do on foot and not with the tractor).
We do not use fertilizers or other chemicals in our fields. We share the permaculture dream that agriculture is the conscious design of landscapes that mimic the patterns and relationships of nature. . So we keep watching and learning, making mistakes and having moments of success, we try to work the best we can.
We have the dream of regenerating the lands we work so that they remain alive and fertile for the generations that follow us.
In the winery we work natural, that means for us we only use grapes for our wines. Our wines do not have added sulphites, chemical acids or artificial aromas. The autochthonous yeast is in charge of the fermentation, we do not add industrial yeasts. We do not control the temperature and we do not clarify or filter the wine (this may be why
our wine has some precipitation and it may be that it is a bit cloudy). We like live wines. We look for wines that convey emotions and that make you happy.
We work by hand, a lot by hand and taking advantage of gravity. We produce a maximum of 10,000 bottles/year.
