Klanc is the name of the old wine cellar where, since 1993, the Gorjup family produces their wines. The wine farm’s main activities are taking care of the vines and producing wine. In 2016 the youngest son, Benjamin, took over management of the farm and named the brand after the place where the roots of his family’s work are. The winery is located in Vipolže, a small Slovenian town in the southwestern part of Goriška brda region, in Slovenia bordering Italy.
The vineyards of the KLANC winery (3.8 hectares) are located in Vipolže (Rebula since 1980, Merlot and Malvasia since 1974) Medana (Chardonnay since 1990) and Cerovo (Pinot blanc, Cabernet franc, Cabernet sauvignon and Merlot since 2006).
A few years ago, Benjamin entered the world of natural wine production. The vineyards are cultivated without artificial sprays and pesticides, using natural preparations for both vineyard and wine production. We only process grapes of our vineyards.
BELO 2022 is composed of Chardonnay (35%), Rebula (15%) and Pinot Blanc (50%). We’ve cultivated the three grapes since 1990 (Chardonnay), 1980 (Ribolla) and 2006 (Pinot Blanc) respectively.
We have been growing Chardonnay in flat clay terrain (in 'Trbunk', Medana) and Rebula and Chardonnay (in 'Klanc', Vipolže and in 'Gardinje', Cerovo) on hilly parcels with marl soil, known as "opoka."
Chardonnay and Pinot blanc were harvested in the first half of September, while the Rebula harvest was in the second half. After destemming, the grapes macerated in stainless steel tanks with their skins. Fermentation occurred spontaneously, as the yeast came from the grapes themselves. Chardonnay macerated for 7 days, Pinot Blanc for 10 days, and Rebula for 30 days. The wine rested in stainless steel tanks for several months until the blending of the three types and bottling of the new production, which took place in the spring and early summer days.
