Adega do sável (Alosa Alosa)

Mateus is the fifth generation of the Nicolau de Almeida family to produce wine in the Douro. Together with his wife, Teresa Ameztoy, they work in a winery they call Adega do Sável (Alosa Alosa), the name of the fish that traveled the Douro River since the Atlantic Sea, today an impossible reality due to the construction of dams. In this cellar, we are introduced to different perspectives and approaches to vineyards and wine, based on organic and biodynamic agriculture. They present us with 3 sets of wines. The Trans Douro Express, seeking to express the climatic characteristics of each sub-region of the Douro: Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo and Douro Superior. The Hermits, white wines from the region that are distinguished by different characteristics of the soil of origin. And finally, Curral Teles, which are the result of different winemaking techniques. All of this in an underground cellar, dug in the shale, creating an unusual aesthetic where nature and man meet.
