António Madeira

António Madeira, a French son of Portuguese immigrants, has his roots in the foothills of Serra da Estrela. António is convinced that it is in these highlands that the heart of the Dão is located, the area with the best potential for aging wines, the area where the wines are thinner, fresher, more austere and more mineral. Since 2010, António Madeira has sought in this sub-region the places that our ancestors elected as the best for the vine, those that we could describe as "Grands Crus du Dão Serrano". And he ended up finding a series of old vines that are distinguished by the authenticity of their grape varieties, by the characteristics and nuances of their granite soils and by their solar exposure. Among them is the vine that gives birth to the António Madeira 2011. Aged 50 years, this vine, which had not been pruned for 3 years, was saved from abandonment. In 2010, each hectare of vine produced only 80 kg of grapes, which is why there was no bottling.
