Meet the Winemaker: Joan Rubió of Cal Tiques at HADLEY’s
Tuesday, 20 October 2026 | 7:00 PM | Hamburg
Join us at HADLEY’s for an intimate natural wine tasting with Joan Rubió, the winemaker behind Cal Tiques in Alt Penedès, Catalonia.
Joan spent more than 15 years as technical director at the renowned Cava producer Recaredo, where he was an early advocate of biodynamic viticulture. In 2015, he returned to his family estate with his wife Ángels to create wines that truly express their origins.
Today, Joan cultivates five hectares of vines using biodynamic principles. All grapes are harvested by hand, fermented with indigenous yeasts and processed without pressing. Nothing is added, fined or filtered.
Joan describes his wines as “melodies extracted from grapes.”
For this special evening, he will personally introduce five of his wines, sharing the stories, philosophy and craftsmanship behind each bottle.
Wines We’ll Be Tasting
1. Ancestral Xarel·lo 2022

2. Ancestral Sumoll 2024
Red pét-nat made from 100% Sumoll. Just one hour of skin contact, delicate bubbles, refreshing acidity and a beautifully dry finish.
3. La Petita 2023
A skin-contact white blend of Xarel·lo, Malvasía de Sitges, Sumoll Blanc and Garnacha. Six days on skins and two months in ceramic vessels. Notes of citrus, beeswax, white peach, honeysuckle, flint and fennel. Lively acidity and a long finish.
4. Joanots 2021
100% Macabeu, with five days of skin contact, four months in a white ceramic amphora and six months in tank. Mineral, with subtle petrol notes reminiscent of Riesling. Only 2,450 numbered bottles produced.
5. Deix 2023
100% Xarel·lo from the La Rovira vineyard. Seven days of skin contact, followed by six months in a 500-litre oak barrel under flor yeast, inspired by the Sherry tradition. Silky and elegant, with complex saline and savoury notes. Only 1,990 numbered bottles produced.
